Survey of universities of the US

 
      
-          more than 3000 institutions of higher education: public or private
-          you can choose between community colleges, the differences concern to the possibilities to study and the degrees, but all offer undergraduate study
 
2 year community college
-           they offer career and transfer programs for 2 years
-           career programs: vocational training -> after finish you get a certificate
-           transfer programs: similar to the first two years of a college or university
      āthe two years can you take into account and can go to college or university
       graduate: associate degree
-      one third of all students choose this school type because they have lower tuitions
 
4 year college
-           offer education for 4 years
-           first two year (lower division): english, natural sciences, social sciences and basic courses in their major area
-           last two year (upper division): you can specialize yourself in your major area
-           graduate: bachelor degree
 
university
-           they also offer education for 4 years

-           they also offer education for 4 years
-           difference between a college and universities: universities offer also graduate studies which you can finish as a master or doctorate
 
 
Admission
 
The application consists of 
-           the high school diploma
-           the needed test scores (SAT multiple choice test in maths, language and special subjects)
-           thr letters of recommendation (that should be written by teachers)
-           the financial certification (have to be named and signed)
-           the essay (you have to write about your plans of study, your expectations                                     concerning the studies and the university)
-           the personal interviews
 
 
Ivy League 

-           a group of universities in the northeastern United States which compete each other in sports āofficial was formed in 1954
-           the members are harvard, yale, columbia, cornell, brown, pennsylvania, princeton university and dartmouth college
-           the name comes from plant ?ivy? because at the time the walls of that universities was covered with ivies
-           another statement is that the name comes from roman number ?IV?, if you spell the number as a letter ā?I? +?V? āsounds like ?ivy?
-           in the league are championship in 33 menīs and womenīs sport
-           this univesities have a high level of acception and higher tuitions
